A "mirror" of the Web-pages and text files are available at this link.

Unfortunately, the site corrupts .zip and .tgz files... Better ask me now
for .zip or .tgz files, if you forgot to get something.

Anyone would like to host his stuff (whatever is still not "gone")?

I'm sorry for Chris gave it up and I don't have enough free net-space
to hold the complete OSD-story.
IIRC Mark&Candice White hold our cyberscriptorium and may have space
for OSD too (I don't have their email).

I don't have any web-host space. I don't have the website pages. It looks
like it'll be some work to just save them all.

I do have a high percentage of the files and packages. ~2.6Mb from CG and
~340Kb from JF. To get them to someone, I'd need an open ftp that supports
binary where I can upload - unless someone can suggest something
better/easier.

So, the critical stuff to save would be the webpages. Any volunteers?

I tried downloading the same .zip file from my page cached at
different times and here's what I see:
os.zip:
original size: 386799
size as of 6/18/2006: 386798 (one last 0 byte is missing)
size as of 4/5/2007: 63935
Files compare equal.

File pm.zip downloaded from Chris' site: 91238 byte in size. 7zip says
it's broken. Adding a zero byte at the end fixes it.
File osd.zip from the same place 128480 bytes in size. Same problem.
Same workaround.

Again, file resume.doc from my old site -- same problem and same
workaround. I don't seem to have any binary file (other than GIFs)
that ends in a non-zero byte (GIFs normally have 3B at the end).

So, at first glance there're two problems with http://web.archive.org/:
1. It may have only a small fraction of the file cached (see above:
~64KB out of ~387KB)
2. There can be the last byte missing (not sure if it's only the case
when the last byte is 0 -- curious minds may try more)

The two problems above may theoretically be related.

Some ideas... Free webhosting still exists. I don't think anybody
would care if that's with ads or not. Plus, no special features are
needed on the host and neither is needed a lot of space. So, you could
create a site and put all that stuff up there. I think free complete
website downloaders also exist. Should by now. I used some shareware
many years ago. So, it will crawl the archive and download whatever's
out there with the whole directory structure. Broken binary files can
be manually overwritten with good ones...

Well, I've some servers in a Data Center, and one of them hosts (among
other things) my own Fiwix kernel project and even acts as a mirror
for the Ancient UNIX Archives.

I don't know how much of space are we talking, but I think it would be
possible to host such pages, mainly because I'm very committed with OS
development.

First we can wait if people of osdev.org want to merge all the data in
their space, otherwise consider my offer.

Let me know.

I've got gigs of space. If someone wants to tell me how to get it I can
host it on maricopacomputer.com

Hi guys,

I've set up cgiese.maricopacomputer.com and begun downloading the web
site from the wayback archives. Its not fast going and I have to do
each page individually. Unfortunately the archive takes the literal
page itself and uses a javascript stub at the end to translate the URL.
Luckily so far most of ~geezer's stuff used relative addresses so it
makes it easier, I just have to delete the javascript at the end and
remove the BASE tag from the beginning of the file. So dont expect it
to be up completely within the next day or two may take a few weeks
depending on how big it is.

If anyone wants to help I'd be glad to set you up an account so you can
curl and vi everything to get it working... Smile Please email me
individually if you want to help. Just take out the nospam from my
email address listed, or use chris underscore benesch at hotmail dot
com. My spam filtering is pretty intense on the maricopacomputer address.

I'm glad I can do something for the community. I hit a brick wall with
ATA drivers, so I've been kind of slacking in working on any of this
stuff, but something to help the community is even better.

My server doesnt have a very fast connection but I have plenty of disk
space and complete control over all the little parts of it, ie apache,
dns, etc.

Yes, let's go step by step.
Could you please upload the contents of the "temp" directory, and the
other directories, into ZIP file(s) and upload it to Rapidshare.com
and/or Megaupload.com, Badongo.com, 4shared.com, to later host it
formally?

I will also set up a mirror at this address (sorry if it is slow or
seems to disappear for days, weeks or months, I have no intention to
permanently shut it down really, just lack of resources):

http://redir.no-ip.org/mirrors/

Just look for the "http://my.exexpc.com/~geezer/" mirrored link.
By now, if I'm not wrong, the "OSD" (OS Development) section is 100%
saved here, since I archived it long before this shutdown.

Regards, and I will keep alert at this.

That archive was made back in 2006.

I can compare against what is at http://archive.org and order a
considerable part of what needs to be completed and/or updated,
preferably with suggestions and missing files provided from others.

Those files can be uploaded easily at http://rapidshare.com without
registration, and it will return a link like this to be posted:

I have uploaded it. Now it's a matter of seeing what can be recovered.

Hope there's further help. When it's done at most it should be put in
a ZIP file so that everyone who wishes can make their own mirrors.

And hope that Chris Giese would have archived the full website before
shutting it down, that's a shame.

Oh, well thanks!

I figured I got voluntered. So, I decided I would _exceptionally_ slowly
download the web stuff at my leisure. Thanks again. I was going to start
with Yahoo's cache on the hope that it'd be cleaner.

Yes, let's go step by step.

Okay.

I don't have the files sorted into directories. I could try to recreate
what was in the temp if I've got the files or if I can get them from
Webarchive. I'd prefer to ftp them into an anonymous ftp, perhaps to
Kristof's site, perhaps elsewhere. If not, then I'll see what needs to be
done to put them up elsewhere. If those sites require e-mail registration
or identification, they are inacessible to me.

Kristof has already started setting up a mirror. He provided a link
somewhere else in this thread.

Good, it looks like you already archived CG's site at:
http://redir.no-ip.org/mirrors/

That might save some work. How current was your mirror? Are you able to
identify what needs updating?
